SchoolAid has engaged education experts at Macquarie University's Institute of Early Childhood to develop Springboards to Philanthropy - a set of resources and ideas you can use in the classroom to support values education and philanthropic development within your curriculum. SchoolAid's Springboards to Philanthropy are all about empowering primary school kids to make a tangible difference to the lives of other children - kids helping kids - through commitment and action. |
How to use the Springboards to PhilanthropyThese resources have been designed and written to align to relevant areas of the curriculum so that you can seamlessly and easily build values education into your daily teaching practice. One of the primary teachers who trialled the Springboards says, "The Springboards make for a great integrated unit of work, incorporating many KLA's, e.g. History, Ethics and Citizenship, Art, Literacy, Mathematics, and many themes can be explored under these headings - in fact there are too many to list here!" The Springboards provide discussion points, ideas for activities and opportunities for conversation around various subjects. The Springboards are based on SchoolAid's major campaign issues; Indigenous literacy and cyberbullying as well as providing a general version that focuses on Sean Tan's stunning picture book, The Arrival, but which can be applied to many different situations. Our vision is to instil in young Australian children the values that give them a feeling of compassion, and a sense of moral and social responsibility towards others who are not as fortunate as they are. And then to turn those values into behaviour, and the knowledge that "together we can make a difference". |
